Help Keep Someone Warm
This winter, will you help us Raise the Roof for thousands of people across Ukraine protecting vulnerable older people from the freezing cold? For many, their homes can no longer shelter them. One in every ten homes in Ukraine has been damaged. Windows shattered. Doors blown off. Walls ripped apart.
For 83-year-old Inna, this is now her reality.
She woke to an explosion when a Russian drone tore through her building. Glass flew across her room. Her balcony was ripped away. The door was blown from its hinges. That night will stay with her forever.
“It was an absolute horror. Some neighbours were burned alive,” Inna whispers
She survived World War Two as a young child, and now she is living through another war, hoping to survive. The next morning, Inna stepped back into the home she had loved for over 60 years, her sanctuary. It was destroyed. But she had nowhere else to go. With her windows gone, the bitter Ukrainian winter swept in. She wrapped herself in layers, multiple blankets, sweaters, duvets, just to get through the nights. The cold cut through everything. She developed a cough that still hasn’t left her.
But with your help, we can change this.
By rebuilding homes, repairing shattered windows and helping someone stay warm this winter, you are rebuilding a life in a moment of desperate need.
Your support will help us Raise the Roof for thousands of people across Ukraine this winter.
Why Raise the Roof matters?
We repaired Inna’s shattered windows and broken door. We restored the electrics destroyed in the blast. We made sure she can be warm and safe again. This winter, she won’t need to pile on duvets to survive the cold. She isn’t afraid of what the night may bring.
“The repair means for me: coziness, calmness, a feeling of security and relief.”
With tears in her eyes, she thanks everyone who made this possible. The memory of that terrifying night will never fade, but now, fear no longer rules her life.
Inna’s story is not unique — there are thousands like her. Thousands of older Jewish people who urgently need your help.
