From Emergency to Recovery

We save lives and lead the Jewish response to international disasters. Guided by Jewish values, we act quickly and effectively with trusted local partners through our Disaster Preparedness Initiative, delivering food, hygiene and vital support across the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe.

Climate Action & Resilience

We help vulnerable communities adapt to the climate crisis by strengthening resilience and safeguarding livelihoods. Our projects in Nepal, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and the Philippines provide early warning systems for floods and droughts, improve climate-resilient water and sanitation facilities, and support diversified, sustainable livelihoods.

Bangladesh Disaster Fund

Communities in eastern Bangladesh have been hit by a major earthquake and a devastating fire in Dhaka’s Korail settlement. World Jewish Relief, with our partner PROTTYASHI, is supporting more than 2,000 people with emergency cash, food, hygiene items, and warm clothing. We are also training local volunteers in first aid and disaster response to help communities prepare for future crises. Locally led and shaped by community feedback, our response is helping families recover now and build resilience for the future.

Prioritising Women and Girls

Across the world, climate change and disasters affect women and girls in unique ways that require tailored interventions. We ensure all our projects consider their experiences and priorities.

In August 2021, Rosette lost everything in the devastating earthquake which hit Haiti. Already unable to work due to an ongoing disability, she had now lost her home and her possessions too. With her whole family, she sheltered outside while, together with our local partner, Haiti Survie, we provided emergency food support.

On International Women’s Day, she received the keys to her new home – built to withstand future earthquakes and the tropical storms that regularly batter the small country.

“I never thought I could build such a beautiful house, it was like a dream. It was an honour for me as a disabled woman to receive my keys on International Women’s Day.”

Now Rosette can begin to properly rebuild her life, in safety and dignity. World Jewish Relief supported others like Rosette after the earthquake, not just to survive the immediate challenges, but to start afresh, with new homes and livelihood opportunities.
